Notes | ||
Much of our knowledge of William Ogilvie comes from his table tombstone in the kirkyard of Boyndie.
The tombstone reads: Here are interred the bodies of William Ogilvie sometime in Kirkside in King Edward parish who departed this life in the year 1737 aged 37 years, and of Margaret Robertson, his wife, who died in the year 1740, aged 40 years. This stone was erected to their memory by Charles Ogilvie, Shoemaker in Gardenstown, and his wife Helen Imlach. The table tombstone must have been placed quite sometime after their deaths because Charles wasn’t married until 1759, 19 years after his mother’s death in 1740. We also find out more about William from the Ogilvie papers. William is said to have married Margaret Robertson 13th Nov 1725. We also learn of William's gruesome end of being bitten by a rabid dog and died of hydrophobia. |
