Additional Info

Thomas Ogilvie, born on January 8, 1772, in Gamrie, was the son of Charles Ogilvie and Helen Imlach. He married Ann Grant daughter of John Grant of Kincardine O’Neil and Margaret Miln Duff of Eden in 1795 at Kincardine O’Neil. In 1796, their son, James, was born in Banff.
He was involved in the sale of heritable properties near Banff harbour in 1805 with Other Merchants from Banff.

Thomas seems to have been a successful Ship owner in Banff having interests in the sloops Rose, Nacy, Two Sisters, Peggy and Lady Abercrombie all of Banff between 1802 and 1817.

Tragedy struck in 1810 when Ann Grant, Thomas’s wife, passed away on May 11, and she was buried in the family plot in Boyne kirkyard next to Thomas’s parents. Thomas faced legal issues in 1812, being fined 100 merks Scots for the crime of failure to appear for assize. Additionally, in the same year, he advertised the sale of the sloop Lady Abercrombie of Banff.

The inscription on a table stone next to Thomas’s parents commemorates Ann Grant, describing her as a dutiful wife and affectionate mother. The stone also mentions Thomas’s sister Jean Ogilvie, who died in 1815, and Helen Ogilvie, who passed away in 1842.
Thomas’s death remains unknown.

Below is the table tombstone Thomas places next to his parent’s grave in Boyne Kirkyard to his wife Ann Grant.
