Rev. John Patison (1730?-1779) was Minister of the Associate Bristo Street Congregation 1754–1779. He would have lived in Seceders' Land which was built in front of the first meeting house and used as the manse, it survived until 1967, when the second meeting house was also demolished. For a year (1753), the two factions worshipped together in Bristo but relations were tense: each used its own collection plate and members of each faction broke into the church to try and change the locks. During periods of expulsion from Bristo, the Burgher faction met at Carrubber's Close in the Old Town and at Bainfield House, West Fountainbridge. Bainfield house was home to Bain Whyt uncle to John’s wife Mitchell White. John died in 1779 and is buried in his burring ground. Presumably, he is either buried in the church or its grounds, but the church was demolished in 1802.
