Notes
Catharine was born on the 25th of May 1801 to Alexander Hughes and Jean Hughes (Davidson) at Leslie, Fife, Scotland. She was the youngest of seven children.

Catharine has four children between 1818-24 to Sir William Ogilvie Bart of Carnouise (1769 – 1825). It’s unknown what their relationship was because there is no marriage record, and their children weren’t baptised until well after Sir William’s death.

In 1826 Catharine marries George Davidson a Stocking Maker residing in Wilsonsland Seiennes Court, Catharine is also resident in the same place and is described as relic of Captain William Ogilvie of the 11th regiment.

The children she had to Sir William don’t stay with her, they seem to have been looked after by Sir William’s relatives.

The 1841 census records Catharine as a Beggar at Hawick Kirkyard with her six very young children to George Davidson. Presumably George moved the family to Hawick because it was a centre for weaving in Scotland but he has died by 1841 leaving his young family destitute.

By the time of the 1851 census Catharine has moved to Jedburgh and is living at 8 Queen Street with her two youngest sons. It seems the older children have been able to get work and improve the families circumstances.

In the 1861 census Catharine is back in Hawick living with her youngest son Summerville and his wife Helen.

Catharine dies of Caner at 9 Back Row in Hawick. She is buried in Wellogate Cemetery by her son William Davidson, Stockingmaker.
