Amy Mary Stewart was born to Dr Zachariah Robert Stewart a Physician in Torquay and Louisa Muckleston in 1850 at Torquay, Devon, England. In 1883 she married James Camille Albert Grange at the British Consulate in Ostend, Belgium, followed by a religious ceremony in Bruges. However, marital bliss seemed short-lived as, in 1887, Amy filed for divorce, alleging James’s infidelity with persons unknown. James sought refuge in Bruges, residing with his mother during the ensuing legal proceedings. Despite Amy’s petition, subsequent census records indicate that the couple remained together. James, living on private means, likely received a pension from the Russian Government, akin to his sisters. However, this income stream might have ceased with Tsar Nicholas II’s abdication in 1917. Amy eventually passed away in 1924 in The County Mental Hospital Exminster. Her probate records reveal an estate valued at £2534 19s 1d, bequeathed to her husband James Camille Grange, Gentleman. |
